Camp Logan was a military post near present day Prairie City and was established in 1865 by the First Oregon Volunteers and then later occupied by the regular army. It remained until 1869. The historic site was located approximately 5 miles south of present day Prairie City. The annual reenactment is put on and sponsored by the Prairie City School History Club and 5th Grade Class. Come and enjoy a weekend at Camp Logan, including hands-on activities, food, and games, not to mention an amazing look into everyday life in the 20th Century. 3rd weekend in May. Cycle Oregon is an annual bike ride/festival that occasionally passes through John Day. Every spring people come from all around the state to go to the Seneca Oyster Feed. Oysters are brought in by the truckload accompanied by many other types of food. There are softball games, horseshoe tournaments, and much more to be enjoyed in the small town of Seneca during the weekend of the Oyster Feed. May 19th.
Each year in December, people line the streets of John Day to see the annual Timber Truckers Light Parade. The highly lit and decorated trucks make for an exciting and interesting tradition in John Day. December 8th.
